Denise Coates is the founder and creator of Bet365 online. This highly talented woman started the company in 2000 in a portakabin in Stoke-on-Trent. Denise developed a sports betting platform and trading team to launch the online business in March 2001.
Mrs Coates ran the family's betting shop estate as Managing Director from 1995 which her Dad Peter Coates started in 1974. The business borrowed £15 million from RBS to develop the online gambling company. In 2005, Bet365 sold its betting shop chain in 2005 for £40 million to Coral and subsquently paid off its load to RBS to concentrate on its fast growing online division.
Bet365 online has since grown into one of the world’s largest online gambling companies with its reported figures to March 2012 showing amounts wagered on sports at £12.2 billion, revenues of £646 million and an operating profit of £116.5 million, whilst paying £130 million in tax to the UK Government.
The latest Annual Accounts submitted to Companies House for the year up to 25/03/2012 reported 'cash at bank' of £258,634,000, 'liabilities' worth £211,003,000, 'net worth' of £215,892,000 and 'assets' worth £313,615,000. Bet365 Group Limited's risk score was amended on 29/03/2013
The guardian recently reported that the most successful self-made businesswoman, Denise Coates had paid herself a £20m dividend in December 2012.
Denise Coates continues to run Bet365 as joint Chief Executive and is the majority shareholder with 50.1% of the shares. Her brother John runs the business alongside her as Joint Chief Executive and her father Peter holds the position of Chairman.
Denise was listed as the 10th richest person in the Britain's top 15 Richest women.
